Professional bicycle criteriums return to the S.C. Lowcountry on Wednesday, April 27, 2022!
In its 19th year, the Downtown Walterboro Criterium brings Olympians and national champions to the town’s historic district for a night of racing.
Featuring a fast, flat course with lots of turns, the racing excitement along the Washington, Neyle, Hampton and Walter streets circuit is truly a spectator-friendly event.
Part of the USA CRITS Speed Week’s nine days of racing, the midweek Downtown Walterboro Criterium is a favorite of the event staff and athletes. Amateur races begin at 4:00 p.m. with the children’s bike race to follow. The headliner race, starting at 7:20 p.m. and continuing for 50 one-mile laps, features professional men’s teams racing at speeds up to 35 mph for an $8,500 purse.
Watch the event for free, and enjoy dinner — either at a restaurant, throw a tailgating party or bring your own picnic — under the stars in historic downtown Walterboro.
